Philips SpeechMike Air Firmware Upgrade

For Speech Mike Air LFH3000, LFH3010, LFH3020

Firmware v 1.18 technical release 2011-10-21

Previous v 1.13 technical release 2010-02-05

IMPORTANT!

When upgrading your SpeechMike Air to firmware version 1.18 please make sure that both - the SpeechMike Air AND the AirBridge are paired.
The firmware upgrade process will upgrade the firmware in both devices.

To run a firmware upgrade please do following:

- Connect the AirPort cradle to the PC and a power supply-

- Put both the SpeechMike Air and the AirBridge into the AirPort cradle.

- Make sure that both devices are connected and paired (the blue connection LED on both devices has to be lit constantly)

- Use the SpeechControl software to upgrade the firmware and wait until the firmware upgrade process is finished.

ATTENTION: After the firmware upgrade a SpeechMike Air and an AirBridge cannot be paired if they do not contain the same firmware version.

IMPROVEMENTS:

Firmware version 1.18 contains following improvements:

- Power Management

A lot of improvements in the power management have been implemented.

Due to this improvements the battery life is extended in average by up to 30% compared to previous firmware versions.

- New Beep Tones

Beep tones for audible signalling of different modes have been reworked to give a much clearer feedback.

To ensure battery recharging a new beep tone also signals whether the SpeechMike Air has been completely docked into the AirPort cradle.

- ‘Fake’ Half Duplex Mode

Though the device stays in full duplex mode, the playback path is muted (microphone is still active and has higher priority).

This will suppress distortions by e.g. system notifications during recording.

- Dragon Naturally Speaking

Recognition performance in cooperation with Dragon Naturally Speaking has been increased.

This results in a faster recognition results after record start and improves the record start/stop behavior.

SOLVED ISSUES:

Firmware version 1.18 solves following issues:

- Spurious out of reach warning

Some programs (especially remote desktop software) caused the device to report the out-of-reach warning even if the device was within reach.

Firmware 1.18 now provides a much more stable wireless connection compared to previous firmware versions.

- Buttons Response

Under rare circumstances no or too many button events were sent to the PC.

Firmware 1.18 now secures that all button events coming from the SpeechMike Air are correctly transferred to the PC.

Philips 9600 & 9500 Firmware Upgrade

For Use with Digital Pocket Memo LFH9600, LFH9620, LFH9500, and LFH9520 ONLY…

Firmware   v3.91( b005) technical release 2011-09-05

Previous   v1.93( b001) technical release 2011-06-15

Additional New Features Included In This Firmware

USB mass storage  write protection for LFH9600 and LFH9620

For installations with strict IT security policys the DPM can be configured

as   read only memory.

In this mode it is not possible to copy files using a file browser to  the SD-card and carry sensitive information outside the customers IT infrastructure.

How do I activate the write protection mode?

Single or multiple devices can be remotely configured using the Philips Remote Device Manager (RDM) software from version 2.8 onwards.

This software can be downloaded from: www.philips.com/dictation   or go directly here to the North-America product page or to the UK product page. This software supports up to 10 devices free of charge.

Which software can work with write protected DPMs?

Philips Speech Exec Pro Dictate or SpeechExec Pro Transcribe software version 7.1 or higher can support USB write protected DPM devices.

In addtion the Philips DPM Hardware Software Development Kit (DPM HW SDK) from version 2.7 build 250 onwards supports the integration of this feature in a 3rd party software application.

256bit DSS encryption for LFH9600 and LFH9620

It is now possible to use 256 bit DSS file encryption to give further enhanced security for dictations

How do I activate 256bit DSS file encryption?

  • Start the Philips software Speech Exec Pro Dictate or SpeechExec Pro Transcribe version 7.1 or higher.
  • Connect the DPM 96xx using a USB connection to the PC and wait until the device has been recognised.
  • Activate the DSS encryption option which can be found within the DPM Configuration settings
  • Unplug the DPM from the PC
  • The encryption level can now be changed directly using the DPM Menu. Go to the new Encryption option within the Setup menu and choose either 128 or 256 bit Encryption. For backwards compatibility with previous transcription software versions the default setting must be 128 bit.

What dictation workflow software can work with 256bit DSS encrypted files?

Philips Speech Exec Pro Dictate or SpeechExec Pro Transcribe software version 7.1 or higher can handle 256bit DSS encrypted files.

Delete barcode information for a specific file for LFH9600 and LFH9620

Barcodes scanned with the scanner module LFH9294 can now be removed from the DSS file. Currently incorrectly scanned codes can only be replaced with new barcodes. This enhancement allows the option to remove a barcode from the DSS file header.

This is useful when an incorrect code has been scanned in error and there is no correct code available.

To delete the barcode information stored in the file header follow this procedure…

  • Press the BARCODE button without pointing to any barcode. In this state the right smart button displays DELETE.
  • By pressing DELETE for 1 second the user can then delete the current barcode  information stored on the DPM.

Configurable auto backspace time for LFH9500, LFH9520, LFH9600, LFH9620

The backspace interval, when moving the 4-positon switch briefly from the STOP/PLAY to the FAST REWIND (F.RWD) position, can now be configured in  the setup menu. Auto backspace times are: 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4 seconds

How do I activate the auto backspace time?

Single devices can be configured directly through the device Menu. Select Auto backspace from the Setup Menu.

Single and multiple devices can be remotely configured using the Philips software Remote Device Manager (RDM) using version 2.8 onwards.

This software can be downloaded from: www.philips.com/dictation or go directly here to the North-America product page or to the UK product page. This software supports up to 10 devices free of charge.

Option to remove blank or empty keyword selection…

With previous FW versions it was possible to select a blank or empty keyword by selecting the ‘---’ keyword . Now the option to select a blank or empty keyword can be disabled. This is useful for example, when authors are sharing a device and it is a requirement that every dictation has an author name assigned.

How do I activate or deactivate the option to select a blank keyword?

Single or multiple devices can be remotely configured through the Philips Remote Device Manager (RDM) software from version 2.8 onwards.

The software can be downloaded under: www.philips.com/dictation or go directly here to the North-America product page or to the UK product page. This software supports up to 10 devices free of charge.

In addtion the Philips DPM Hardware Software Development Kit (DPM HW SDK) from version 2.7 build 250 onwards supports the integration of this feature in a 3rd party software application.

SOLVED PROBLEM:

 Delete part of a recoding

To delete a section of a recording two markers need to be set through selecting the Delete section mode in the Main Menu. In rare cases, when one of the two delete-position-markers was set to the very end of the file, it could happen that after the execution of the delete section function an old parts of a previous recorded job was audible. This firmware fixes this problem.
